Design
This machine is large with approximant measurements of 14" x 10" x 18", but still retains a reasonably small footprint considering its large cup capacity. There are suction cups below the unit which keep the machine stable and secure on your countertop. The bowl and lid are constructed of rather cheap plastic so you need to make sure you don’t drop them because they will break. Some consumers can already attest to this.
450-watt Motor
The 450-watt motor gives this machine plenty of oomph to slice and dice through even the hardest of produce at high speeds into the large bowl. The motor is reliable, but it is quite loud in action especially on the highest speed when processing hard foods. There are 4 speed settings plus a pulse dial for greater control, so a decent range of speed variation is provided.
Large Feed Chute
The large adjustable feed chute is great for convenience as it allows you to put whole produce into the chute without spending time slicing them beforehand. However, larger items such as big potatoes do need some pre-slicing before they can fit in the chute.
High Capacity
The included locking bowl has a huge capacity of 14-cups and has 4 positions plus a convenient handle. The bowl is very easy to remove from the base, which is handy for convenience.
Blades
Included with the machine are several sharp stainless-steel blades to take on those chopping, mixing, slicing and shredding tasks. These include a reversible slicer/shredder, mixing/chopping blade plus a bonus blade, which is essentially a slicing disc.
Pros and Cons of the Hamilton Beach 70595 Big Mouth 14-Cup Food Processor
Pros
Large capacity, big mouth, plenty of power, the Hamilton Beach Food Processor positions itself well in the value for money category. Another good aspect we like is that liquid does not ooze out when you fill the bowl over half its capacity.
Dishwasher-safe parts mean that cleanup is no headache.
Cons
This isn’t one of the more durable food processors in the market due to its plastic parts, so you need to be particularly careful it doesn’t get knocked around.
The pureeing function isn’t that effective, so this isn’t a machine to go for if you want to make baby food. It also does a poor job on grating cheese and shredding in general until you’ve developed the knack on how to get the best results.
Final Thoughts
The Hamilton Beach 70595 Big Mouth 14-Cup Food Processor offers a good level of proficiency for a cheap food processor and is pretty well designed overall. It does have its share of limitations, but for the budget conscious whose main requirements are power and a high workload, this is their best bet.
